Sun (Surya)
Father, soul, government. Offer water to the rising Sun every morning, ideally from a copper vessel, with a pinch of roli (vermilion) and a few grains of rice mixed in.
Moon (Chandra)
Mother, mind, emotions. Offer raw milk on a Shivling in any Shiva temple every Monday morning. If a temple is not accessible, pour milk over a Shivling kept clean at home.
Mars (Mangal)
Brothers, energy, courage. Donate red masoor dal (whole red lentils) or jaggery sweets at a temple on Tuesday. 1.25 kg of dal is the traditional measure.
Mercury (Budh)
Intellect, speech, business. Donate whole green moong dal in a temple or to the poor every Wednesday. 1.25 kg is the traditional measure.
Jupiter (Guru)
Wisdom, teacher, husband (in womans chart). Apply a saffron (kesar) tilak on the forehead every morning. A small pinch of saffron mixed with water and applied with the ring finger is the traditional method.
Venus (Shukra)
Marriage, comforts, wife (in mans chart). Donate white items in a temple every Friday — rice, white cloth, sugar, or curd are traditional. 1.25 kg of rice or 250g of curd is the standard measure.
Saturn (Shani)
Career, discipline, age, karma. Donate mustard oil in a Shani temple every Saturday. Look into the oil and see your reflection before donating — that is the traditional method.

Lal Kitab Remedies for All 9 Planets — At a Glance
Every planet has one core upay, one day of the week, and one gemstone that classical Vedic practice would prescribe and that this tradition refuses outright. That refusal is the whole difference between the two systems, and it is why a full course here costs under ₹500 rather than ₹15,000.
| Planet | Day | The 43-day upay | What Vedic prescribes instead |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sun (Surya) | Sunday | Water offered to the rising sun, wheat and jaggery given at a temple | Ruby (Manik) |
| Moon (Chandra) | Monday | Milk offered on a Shivling, silver worn or carried | Pearl (Moti) |
| Mars (Mangal) | Tuesday | Hanuman Chalisa daily, sweet roti fed to dogs | Red Coral (Moonga) |
| Mercury (Budh) | Wednesday | Green moong donated, silver ring on the left hand, restrained speech | Emerald (Panna) |
| Jupiter (Guru) | Thursday | Water given to a peepal tree, saffron tilak, chana dal donated | Yellow Sapphire (Pukhraj) |
| Venus (Shukra) | Friday | Bath with curd, sweets offered to widowed women or young girls | Diamond (Heera) |
| Saturn (Shani) | Saturday | Mustard oil donated at a Shani temple, black dog fed | Blue Sapphire (Neelam) |
| Rahu | Any day | Barley floated in flowing water, a square piece of silver kept | Hessonite (Gomed) |
| Ketu | Any day | Panch-dhatu ring worn, saffron tilak, jaggery fed to monkeys | Cat’s Eye (Lehsunia) |
Each planet page now carries the placement in all twelve houses as well — what the planet does from that house and the upay specific to it — because the same planet asks for different things from different positions. A Saturn in the 3rd house wants to be left alone; a Saturn in the 1st needs the strict course. The glance table above is the starting point, not the whole instruction.
Lal Kitab Remedies by Date of Birth
You cannot pick an upay from a list and expect it to fit. The remedy depends on which house each planet occupies, and Lal Kitab houses are fixed — the 1st house is always Aries-natured no matter what your ascendant is, which means a Lal Kitab chart does not look like your Vedic one and cannot be read off it.
Generate your chart first with the free Lal Kitab Kundli calculator — it takes a date, time and place of birth and returns the fixed-house chart with every planet placed. Then read the house section on the relevant planet page. If the birth time is uncertain, the planet-level upay in the table above still applies; only the house-specific additions need an accurate time.
Remedies for Money, Obstacles, Marriage and Career
Lal Kitab has no remedy called a money remedy. It has planet remedies, and the problem tells you which planet is involved — which is why the listicles promising ten upays for wealth are working backwards from the search box rather than from a chart. The honest mapping:
- Money and business — usually Mercury (trade, speech, accounts) or Jupiter (accumulation, advice). Venus where the problem is spending rather than earning.
- Obstacles and sudden setbacks — Rahu and Ketu. Where every planet sits between them, you are looking at Kaal Sarp Dosha, which is treated separately.
- Marriage delay or friction — Mars if you are Manglik, Venus in a man’s chart, Jupiter in a woman’s.
- Career delay and stagnation — Saturn, especially during Sade Sati; Sun where the trouble is with authority rather than effort.
- Ancestral or inherited difficulty — the six karmic debts (rin) rather than a single planet upay.
If two or three areas are troubled at once, that usually means one planet is behind all of them rather than three planets each causing one. Start with the chart, not the symptom.
Do Lal Kitab Remedies Really Work?
This deserves a straight answer rather than a sales one. Lal Kitab is a faith-based tradition. There is no controlled evidence that donating mustard oil changes the course of a career, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling. The criticism you will find online — that it oversimplifies classical Jyotish, that lineage astrologers of other schools never used it — is fair comment and worth reading.
What can be said honestly is narrower. The upays are cheap, they are harmless, and most of them are acts of charity or self-discipline that have some value whether or not the astrology behind them holds. Forty-three days of keeping a promise to yourself changes something measurable, and it is not the planets. Where this tradition is genuinely better than the alternative is in what it refuses: it will never tell you to spend ₹40,000 on a stone, and it will never make your situation worse.
Use it as a framework for patience and corrective action during a difficult period. Do not use it in place of a doctor, a lawyer or an accountant, and do not make an irreversible decision on it.
The 43-Day Rule — Why It Matters
All nine planet upays share the same 43-day rule. The number is not arbitrary — in the Lal Kitab tradition it represents the time a karmic pattern needs to fully release once you have begun corrective action. There is a practical truth in it too: 43 days of consistent discipline rewrites habits, smooths emotional reactions, and produces the kind of sustained shift that briefer rituals cannot. Miss a single day and the count resets from one. That is the discipline part of the remedy.
Cost & Realism
The total cost of each 43-day planet upay sits under ₹500 in most cases — sometimes well under. Compare that to a single Vedic gemstone consultation (often ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 for a fitted stone) or a single elaborate Trimbakeshwar yatra (₹30,000 plus). The Lal Kitab tradition is genuinely a poor family’s astrology that works as well for any family. That is its quiet brilliance.
Common Questions Before Starting
Does Lal Kitab remedies really work?
Lal Kitab is a faith-based tradition with no controlled evidence behind it, and the criticism that it oversimplifies classical Jyotish is fair. What is defensible is that the upays are cheap, harmless and mostly consist of charity or self-discipline that carries some value on its own terms. Forty-three days of keeping a commitment changes something real. Treat it as a framework for patience and corrective action, never as a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
Is Lal Kitab accurate or Vedic astrology?
They answer different questions. Vedic Parashari reads the whole chart with dashas and divisional charts and can time events; Lal Kitab uses fixed houses and is built around cheap, actionable remedies rather than prediction. Most North Indian practitioners use Vedic for the diagnosis and Lal Kitab for the upay. Our full comparison sets out the twelve differences.
Which Lal Kitab is the original?
The original is the set of five Urdu volumes written by Pandit Roop Chand Joshi between 1939 and 1952, the last of which ran to 1,173 pages. A first-edition copy is held at the Lahore Museum. Most books sold today are Hindi translations or abridgements of varying quality, and they differ from each other in places. The history of the text explains which editions matter and why.
Can I do Lal Kitab remedies myself without an astrologer?
Yes — that is the point of the tradition, which was written for people who could not afford a consultation. What you do need is an accurate chart, because the remedy depends on the house. Generate one free with the Lal Kitab Kundli calculator, then follow the planet page. Consult someone only if several planets are afflicted at once and you cannot tell which to start with.
What are the 9 planets in Lal Kitab?
The 9 planets (navagraha) in Lal Kitab are: Sun (Surya), Moon (Chandra), Mars (Mangal), Mercury (Budh), Jupiter (Guru), Venus (Shukra), Saturn (Shani), Rahu (north lunar node), and Ketu (south lunar node). Each has its own 43-day upay performed on its assigned day of the week.
Is the 43-day rule the same for all 9 planets?
Yes. The 43-day continuous upay is a fixed Lal Kitab principle across all nine planets. Miss a single day and the count restarts from day one. The day of the week changes (Sunday for Sun, Monday for Moon, Tuesday for Mars and Ketu, Wednesday for Mercury, Thursday for Jupiter, Friday for Venus, Saturday for Saturn and Rahu), but the 43-day discipline is universal.
Can I do upays for multiple planets at the same time?
It is permitted but not recommended. Lal Kitab tradition prefers focus — complete one planet’s 43 days, see the result, then begin the next planet. Running multiple at once dilutes the discipline that powers the upay.
What if I miss a day in the middle of the upay?
The count restarts from day one. This is non-negotiable across all nine planet upays. The Lal Kitab tradition is strict here because the 43-day continuous discipline is itself part of the remedy.
Are these upays safe during pregnancy?
Yes, with two exceptions. Skip any fasting components (none of the planet upays require fasting as their core action). Skip strenuous travel for the river-flowing components (Mercury’s coin and Rahu’s coconut) — ask a family member to perform that single act on your behalf with you holding the item briefly before they go.
I am a non-Hindu. Can I still do Lal Kitab upays?
Yes. Lal Kitab is a tradition rooted in Hindu cosmology but its remedies are largely cultural acts — feeding animals, donating food, lighting lamps, offering water. People of any background can participate. The 43-day discipline works regardless of religious affiliation.
Do I need to consult an astrologer first?
For a basic planet upay, no — the standard 43-day upays on each planet page are self-administered. For complex multi-affliction charts, consider booking a consultation with Dr. Kashyap or Sushama for the precise priority order.
What if my upay does not produce visible results?
Re-examine three things: (1) did you miss any days? (2) was the planet awake or sleeping in your chart? See our sleeping planets guide. (3) was the right planet targeted? Use our calculator to verify. Sometimes a second consecutive cycle is prescribed for stubborn afflictions; sometimes a different planet was the actual root cause.
