The Calculation
How To Calculate Bhrigu Bindu
Bhrigu Bindu = (Moon longitude + Rahu longitude) / 2
The calculation is conceptually simple but requires one adjustment for the case where Moon and Rahu are more than 180° apart.
- Get the natal Moon’s longitude in degrees (0° to 360° on the zodiacal circle).
- Get Rahu’s longitude in degrees.
- Calculate the average: (Moon° + Rahu°) / 2.
- If the absolute angular distance between Moon and Rahu is greater than 180°, the shorter arc lies on the other side of the circle. In that case, add 180° to the average and normalise to the 0-360 range.
- The result is the point’s zodiacal longitude. Identify the sign (rashi) and house (from natal Lagna) it falls in for chart interpretation.
Most modern astrology software automates this. Programs that follow the BNN tradition (or that include Bhrigu Bindu as a calculated point) compute it natively once Moon and Rahu positions are known. The manual calculation above is for understanding rather than daily use.
What Bhrigu Bindu Indicates
The midpoint functions as a karmic activation marker. It does not predict by itself — it amplifies whatever planet sits on it or transits over it. Three categories of significance are worth distinguishing:
- Natal planets on the point. If a natal planet sits on or within a few degrees of the point, that planet’s karmic signature is intensified throughout life. Reading The Chart’s Bhrigu Bindu Position

The honest framing: Bhrigu Bindu amplifies. It does not create. If the four-karaka structure shows marriage is promised, Bhrigu Bindu transits tell you when. If the four-karaka structure shows marriage is delayed or not promised in the current life-arc, Bhrigu Bindu transits do not override that — they amplify whatever the underlying chart structure is set up to produce.
Common Application Mistakes
- Computing Bhrigu Bindu from sayana (tropical) positions when BNN uses nirayana (sidereal). Always use the sidereal Moon and Rahu positions. The numerical difference between tropical and sidereal is significant (about 24 degrees in 2026) and produces wrong results if mixed.
- Forgetting the >180° adjustment. When Moon and Rahu are far apart on the chart, the simple midpoint formula gives the wrong arc. Always check the angular distance and adjust for the shorter arc.
- Treating Bhrigu Bindu as a deterministic predictor. The point amplifies activations; it does not create them. Read it alongside the four-karaka and Saturn-career pictures, not in isolation.
- Over-narrow degree tolerance. Transits are usually relevant within 3-5 degrees of exact conjunction with the point — not just the exact-degree day. The activation window is typically months, not hours.

Bhrigu Bindu and the Lal Kitab Karmic Debts
Bhrigu Nandi Nadi and Lal Kitab grew up independently — different centuries, different languages, different assumptions. But they end up asking the same question from opposite ends. The midpoint tells you where karma is concentrated in a chart. Lal Kitab’s karmic debts (rin) tell you whose debt it is and what to do about it.
The overlap is practical rather than theoretical. Where the midpoint falls in the ninth or twelfth house, it is worth checking the chart for Pitra Rin, the debt carried down the father’s line. A fourth-house placement sits in the same territory as Matru Rin; a seventh-house one overlaps with Stri Rin. This is not a one-to-one mapping and no careful practitioner treats it as one — the two systems use different house logic. But when both frameworks flag the same house, that house is worth taking seriously.
The reason the pairing is useful comes down to cost. Bhrigu Nandi Nadi diagnoses precisely but prescribes very little; Lal Kitab prescribes remedies that cost under a few hundred rupees and run for 43 days. No, though the two get confused because both are calculated points rather than planets. The Part of Fortune (Pars Fortunae) comes from the Hellenistic tradition and is derived from the Ascendant, Sun and Moon; it describes where ease, vitality and material wellbeing gather. The point uses only Rahu and the Moon and belongs to the Bhrigu Nandi Nadi tradition; it describes where karma discharges. They are calculated differently, they mean different things, and in most charts they fall nowhere near each other.
Two calculators gave me different Bhrigu Bindu positions — which one is right?
Check whether the two answers are exactly 180° apart. If they are, you have hit the commonest error in Bhrigu Bindu calculation: when Rahu and the Moon are more than 180° apart measured forward from Rahu, a tool that simply averages the two longitudes returns the midpoint of the longer arc — the wrong sign and the wrong house. The shorter-arc figure is the one Bhrigu Nandi Nadi uses. If instead the two answers differ by only a degree or two, the cause is usually a different ayanamsa, or one tool using the true node where the other uses the mean node. The calculator on this page uses the shorter arc, Lahiri ayanamsa and the mean node, and it tells you explicitly when your chart is one of the affected ones.
