Your Vedic Numerology Numbers
The Three Core Numbers तीन मुख्य अंक
Vedic numerology rests on three numbers drawn from your name and birth date. Each answers a different question about you.
1. Mulank (मूलांक) — your Root Number
Your Mulank (also called the psychic or birth number) comes from the day of the month you were born, reduced to a single digit. It describes your core nature — how you instinctively think, react and present yourself day to day. Example: born on the 27th → 2+7 = 9, so Mulank = 9 (Mars).
2. Bhagyank (भाग्यांक) — your Destiny Number
Your Bhagyank (destiny or life-path number) is the sum of every digit of your full date of birth, reduced to a single digit. It points to your life direction, karma and the path that unfolds with age. Example: 27·03·1990 → 2+7+0+3+1+9+9+0 = 31 → 3+1 = 4, so Bhagyank = 4 (Rahu).
3. Naamank (नामांक) — your Name Number
Your Naamank is the Chaldean total of the name you actually use, reduced to a single digit (the two-digit compound also carries meaning). It reflects your public image — how the world perceives and responds to you. It is the only one of the three you can change, which is the basis of name correction.
| Number | From | What it reveals |
|---|---|---|
| Mulank (Root) | Day of birth | Core personality, instinct, daily behaviour |
| Bhagyank (Destiny) | Full date of birth | Life path, karma, long-term direction |
| Naamank (Name) | Name you use | Public image, reputation, how others respond |
When your Mulank and Bhagyank are friendly, life tends to flow with less inner conflict; when they clash, you feel pulled two ways — a workable challenge, not a verdict. The calculator above shows whether yours align.

What Makes It “Vedic” — Rahu, Ketu & the Planets वैदिक बनाम पाश्चात्य
Most numerology you find online is Western (Pythagorean). Authentic Indian numerology differs in two important ways, and both are built into this calculator:
- The shadow planets. Western systems assign number 4 to Uranus and 7 to Neptune. Vedic numerology assigns 4 to Rahu and 7 to Ketu — the lunar nodes that Jyotish and Lal Kitab treat as powerful karmic forces. This is the signature of the Vedic system.
- Chaldean letters. For names, Vedic numerology uses the older Chaldean values (1–8, where 9 is sacred and assigned to no letter), based on a letter’s sound-vibration — not the simple A=1, B=2 sequence of Pythagorean numerology. See the full mapping in our name numerology guide.
Because every number maps to a graha, your numerology and your birth chart speak the same language — which is exactly why numerology and astrology remedies reinforce each other.
Friendly, Neutral & Enemy Numbers मित्र व शत्रु अंक
Since numbers are planets, they relate to one another through the classical planetary friendships of Jyotish (Naisargika Maitri). This decides how well two numbers — your own Mulank and Bhagyank, or two people’s numbers — work together.
- 1, 3 and 9 (Sun, Jupiter, Mars) are natural allies — a warm, energetic trio.
- 5 (Mercury) is the great adapter, friendly with almost everyone.
- The classic tension is 1 ↔ 8 (Sun ↔ Saturn) — ambition versus delay — and 6 (Venus) versus 1 and 2 (Sun and Moon).
Numerology Remedies — the Lal Kitab Connection अंक उपाय
This is where Vedic numerology becomes practical, and where AstroIndus differs from generic numerology sites. If a number tied to a difficult planet is weighing on you, the remedy is simply to strengthen or pacify that planet — the same work a Lal Kitab astrologer does. The levers are affordable and home-based:
- Colour & day — wear the planet’s lucky colour, honour its weekday (see the table above).
- Mantra & donation (daan) — chant the graha’s mantra and donate its significator items, the heart of Lal Kitab’s low-cost totke.
- Lal Kitab acts — feeding the right animals or birds, simple household practices, done consistently for 43 days.
Each number above links straight to its planet’s remedy page — for example, a difficult 8 points to Saturn (Shani) remedies and a strong 9 to Mars (Mangal) remedies. Explore the whole system on the Lal Kitab hub.

Frequently Asked Questions सामान्य प्रश्न
How do I calculate my Mulank from my date of birth?
Take only the day of the month you were born and add its digits until you reach a single digit. Born on the 27th: 2+7 = 9, so your Mulank is 9. Born on the 5th, it is simply 5. The calculator above does this for you instantly.
What is the difference between Mulank and Bhagyank?
Mulank (root number) comes from your day of birth and shows your core personality. Bhagyank (destiny number) comes from your full date of birth and shows your life path. Mulank is who you are; Bhagyank is where you are headed.
Which planet rules which number?
1–Sun, 2–Moon, 3–Jupiter, 4–Rahu, 5–Mercury, 6–Venus, 7–Ketu, 8–Saturn, 9–Mars. The Rahu and Ketu rulerships are the hallmark of the authentic Vedic system.
What if my Mulank and Bhagyank are the same?
Then your personality and your destiny reinforce each other — you are focused and “all-in,” with both your strengths and your challenges amplified. The calculator notes when this happens.
Is Vedic numerology the same as the numerology I see on most websites?
Usually not. Most online numerology is Western (Pythagorean) and assigns 4 to Uranus and 7 to Neptune. Vedic numerology uses Rahu and Ketu and the Chaldean letter values, and ties every number to a planet you can also read in your birth chart.
Do I need my birth time for numerology?
No. Numerology needs only your date of birth and name. Birth time is needed for a full astrology chart, not for your core numbers — which is why this tool can give an instant reading.
Can numerology predict my future?
No. Numerology is a traditional system for understanding tendencies and timing, not a guarantee of events. We present it as guidance and self-insight, never as certainty — and never as a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
Which numerology number is the most powerful?
None is “best.” Each planet-number has its own strengths and challenges — a 1 leads, a 6 creates harmony, an 8 endures. What matters is whether your numbers are in harmony and how well their planets are placed in your chart.
How does name numerology work for non-Sanskrit names?
It works for any name written in Roman letters — each letter has a Chaldean value regardless of language. The calculator simply sums the letters of the name you use. See the full method in our name numerology guide.
Is my data saved when I use this calculator?
No. The entire calculation runs inside your browser. Your name and date of birth are never sent to a server, saved or shared.
